Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 375°F (190°C). If your model needs preheating, give it about 3–5 minutes.
A hot basket helps the beans get crisp.
Prep the green beans: Wash and thoroughly dry the green beans. Moisture leads to steaming, not crisping, so pat them dry with a clean towel.
Season: In a large bowl, toss green beans with olive oil, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Add lemon zest for extra brightness.
Basket setup: Lightly spray the air fryer basket if sticking is an issue.
Arrange beans in a mostly single layer. A slight overlap is fine, but avoid a crowded pile for best browning.
Air fry: Cook for 7–10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway. Thinner beans may be done at 7–8 minutes; thicker beans may need up to 10–11.
Look for lightly blistered edges and a tender-crisp bite.
Finish and taste: Transfer to a bowl, squeeze on lemon juice, and adjust salt and pepper. Add Parmesan or nuts if you like.
Serve: Enjoy hot as a side, or fold into salads, bowls, or omelets.
